Campbell's Soup Commercial is Disgusting

Okay, I've just seen it one too many times. You know the one. The totally stupid and disgusting Campbell's Soup commercial (there are a series of these stupid things) where this gigantic man is sucking on a microwaveable container of soup making sucking, disgusting, baby noises. The latest one is where his is sucking his soup down and someone comes by to get his name for a name plate for his cubicle. The guy is so into sucking on his soup container and making those awful noises that he doesn't really answer. The next day he comes to work and his name plate says "Num Yummy" and Mr. Stupid Soup-Sucker asks "who's Num Yummy?" I'm sorry, but the Campbell's Soup company needs to fire their ad firm. These commercials are so off-putting that I won't buy the soup anymore; I didn't buy much anyway, but I'm less inclined to do so now that those commercials have grossed me out. Get those things off the air! They are disgusting! This commercial is so bad that I can't even find the video on YouTube so you can decide for yourself.

Shame I'd quite like to watch them now just to see if they are as bad as you describe

I whole-heartedly agree! I was sick of it from the first time I saw this series. His slurping makes me sick. His stupidity makes me angry. I want to throw up and kill the guy at the same time. I refuse to buy any more Campbells until these ads go away.

I love this commercial; I find myself saying "Num Yummy" and just laughing out loud.

I love that Num Yummy one, the way he delivers thatline is so funny and i hate most commericals. I find him endearing. My boyfriend and I laugh just saying it too.

This commercial is not DISGUSTING at all. It is very funny. Anyone with even the slightest bit of a sense of humor would agree with me.

Are you serious?! Disgusting though? Really? The word that you use to describe that commercial is disgusting?! Seek therapy okay, you've got issues. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with that commercial, it's funny, it's catchy, and the way he delivers that "Num Yummyyy" line is right on point. Puh-leez, you got be kidding me. And to actually speak on it, geez some people are just too much. It's not "Num Yummy's" fault that the food you eat is so nasty you have to place it all the way on the back of your tongue. The gagging sound isn't too pleasant either ya know...

What are you talking about? I LOVE that commercial. There's nothing disgusting about it. They're just trying to appeal to a different demographic - one that doesn't include frivolous myopic people like you.

Funny how a silly commercialthat I personally don't like can bring out such passionate responses. Isn't it great that we all have such different opinions? Glad I wrote the original post; now I know people are actually reading my blog ;)

This is one hilarious commercial! Seriously, a sense of humour always helps. I too say "Num Yummy" and laugh outloud along with 90% of my co-workers Nicely done Campbell's, I want to try some!

I am really glad that I wrote the original post, because it affirms to me that people actually read what I write, however, just because I don't find the "humor" in that commercial particularly funny, doesn't mean that I am a hater or without a sense of humor. It is interesting that the people who make comments like "don't be a hater" when someone has a different opinion, actually are the ones who sound hateful. I simply don't like to hear or see a grown man eating food like a baby while he is supposed to be working. It perpetuates the current trend in ads to depict men as stupid and lazy. Just do a little check of the commercials the next time you are watching TV and watch how demeaning they are to men. Usually the dad or the husband is shown as someone who is a bumbling idiot, or babyish or lazy. Comments please. . .

I couldn't agree more with your original post and your comment. To say that I find those commercials extremely repugnant would be the epitome of understatement. A similar commertial would be the MENTOS ad that showed and heard a woman drinking from a mans mouth. The ad still plays now only without the "gulping". They probably got too many complaints from people with taste. ps that was my "test".

I think the Num Yummy commercial is hilarious! I LUV it! It cracks me up each time. I have friends who find the commercial hilarious as well.

I also find it amusing, but stupid. I just added "Num Yummy" to a nameplate on an empty cube in our office this morning.

Now THAT'S funny!

I stopped buying the soup for fear it would make me as retarded as the guy in the commercial. He couldn't survive in business in the situations they put him in and he is so oblivious to reactions and the damage he does to his work reputation. I know it is just a commercial but it sets my teeth on edge. The only way I can let my distaste be known is to stop purchasing Campbell's soups and encourage my friends to stop buying it as well.

I too got a NUM YUMMY name plate made at work. However, I would deny being the instigator as true name plates are now being randomly taken and replaced with the NUM YUMMY plate. When the new "NUM YUMMY" realizes their plate has been swaped, they take someone elses and pass NUM YUMMY on.

Yo I believe the commercial is dumb as hell. The guy eating the soup never states "num yummy" while the maintenance man asks for his name. I guess it is simply implied that the sounds he was making could be best represented by "num" and "yummy." Commercials requiring the audience to suspend reality aren't successful.

So some people love the commercial and some people hate it...we've ran that into the ground. But here's something that I find interesting. On the one hand, the author of this post thinks the commercial is so stupid that she says she will no longer buy Campbell's Soup. But on the other hand, she scoured YouTube so thoroughly that she could say that it wasn't anywhere among the eleventy billion other videos. Looks like the ad worked.

HA! Lighten up; its a SOUP commercial, and a funny one at that. It lasts 15 seconds. The slurping is unnoticable unless you listen for it. Just watch the commercial, don't write a huge essay about how much you hate it, and get a life!

If you knew what went into those soups, you definitely wouldn't want to eat them anyway.

And yes, the slurping sounds in ads are GROSS. Obviously the ads are created by small-brained moutb-breathing droolers whose parents always told them they were "special".

Seriously guys, I agree with Marissa. Theres really no need to write an essay on how dumb a commercial is. Yes, I know that we live in America, and we can have our opinions. But sometimes when we hate something we just have to suck it up. Not blog about it.

Alison, you're right, this is America. This is also her blog, and as such, she gets to choose what she blogs about. You, as the reader, get to choose whether or not you read it. You should see some of the things I write about! While I'm neutral about the commercial, I found her post about it to be funny and entertaining.
