My myLot

I have just rediscovered a little site I used a few years ago to earn a little bit of extra cash. I don't remember the reason I stopped using it, but I was recently reacquainted with the site, and now I remember that it was kind of fun. It is a little bit like Facebook, but it is all about discussion and participation. The more you participate, the more you can earn. Like Facebook, it can really eat up a lot of your time if you let it, but it is easy to justify your time spent on myLot because you are earning a little bit of money. I am not saying that you will get rich, but having $10.00 a month put in your PayPal account is not a bad thing. These days, for me, 10 bucks is quite a treat!

Facebook Stealing From Blogging

I have noticed something in recent months. I have been blogging much less in the past few months compared to last year. I was wondering why this was when it occurred to me that last year I was not a part of Facebook, and this year I am. It seemed like last year I had opinion about everything and I would blog about all my opinions; this year, not so much. There are different circumstances this year that have made my blogging habits change as well. Last year was all the excitement and hoopla about the Presidential election--I had a lot to say about that. Last year we were trying to sell our house in Virginia and move back to Indiana. I had a lot of blog entries about that as well. I was living alone in Virginia with three of my four daughters last year, while my oldest and my husband were living here in Indiana--I had a lot of time to blog. This year is a whole different story. We are all back together, living in Indiana. Finances aren't what they should be for us, so I just haven't been all that motivated to do anything but worry about where money is going to come from, and the biggest thing is that I have a Facebook account. I have been a little slow on the draw, but it has been fun catching up with high school and college friends that I lost touch with years ago. It has been interesting checking out what my two older daughters talk about with their friends, and it has been amazing to me how much time can be spent/wasted trying to build up a farm in "Farmville," or a fish tank in "Fish World." A lot of time has been wasted playing Farkle and Pathwords, so that is why it feels like my blogging has been stolen from me. I stole it from myself. Frankly, the interactive part of Facebook has been really good for me. I have re-established relationships with cousins, and have been able to keep up with friends we left behind in Virginia. The change in how I spend my time, while perhaps a bit more wasteful, has had some benefit, and I don't mind too much.

Slow Month(s)

I don't know what is wrong with me, but I just don't have anything interesting to blog about. I haven't earned anything with my Google AdSense stuff in the last month either. I wonder if it has to do with my spending a lot of my "free" time on Facebook? Those blasted games! They are such time stealers! Anyway, I thought I would check in with my "trash heap" of a blog, just so no cobwebs start forming. I think I hear crickets chirping in the corner. Oh well, hope your October is going well!

Farkle on Facebook

It is quite interesting to me how completely addicted one can get to playing silly little online games. I have written about this a few times regarding my "addiction" to the Mah Jong Medley game I have been trying to win for, oh I don't know now, 3--maybe 4 years! I am still trying to get past that one blasted puzzle. Now that I have discovered Facebook, a whole new group of games has become available to me. Right now the only one I have been playing is "Farkle." This particular dice game is one I have played many times with my kids using real dice. The Facebook game is played much the same way as the real game, but it is highly addictive, unlike the real game where usually someone drops out because it can take a long time to get a winner. I have noticed that many of my Facebook friends play Farmville, Yoville, Scramble, just to name a few. I wonder if anyone has done any study on how much time people waste on playing these games. I always tell myself, "Well, just one more time." I just can't seem to stop at that "one more time!" Oh well, what the Farkle, I have nothing else to do really.

Facebook and Middle-Aged Women

Even though I hate to admit it, I guess I am considered "middle-aged." I hate that. At the urging of my sixteen year old daughter, I have joined Facebook. I was reluctant at first because I had no idea what purpose it could serve. My husband told me that the fastest growing group of people joining Facebook is the middle-aged female, and that younger users are all mad about it because it is their "thing." I ignored what he said. After all, it was my sixteen year old who wanted me to try it. She didn't seem to mind at all, and some of her friends are also on my "friends" list. It is actually a good way for me to check to make sure nothing "untoward" is being exchanged. As a matter of fact, I have now made contact with a couple of high school friends of mine whom I had lost contact with years ago. It is interesting and fun to find out where everyone is and what they are doing with their lives. So who cares if those young whipper-snappers are getting their noses all out of joint. Facebook is cool (do they use that word anymore?) and fun and I like it, so there!
