150 Pound Woman Wears a Size 6 ?????

Here is something that has been bugging me for quite some time now. I am sure you have seen the TV and print ads for the various weight loss programs that are out there, and most of them are all hype with very little true weight loss success. I also read an article a couple of months ago that was in "People" magazine about how people lost half of their weight. I'm not sure why this bothers me so, but I just don't believe that someone who, say weighed 200 pounds and lost 50 pounds can say that they now are a "size 6" or a "size 4." I find that so unbelievable because I don't weigh anything like 15o pounds and I can't squeeze my body into a size 4, 6, or 8, sometimes not even a 10! Maybe some of the people are super tall, so that would make a difference, but I swear the article I read said these women weren't too different in stature than I am. I am not very tall--5'4''. I just don't get how someone who outweighs me by 20 or thirty pounds can wear such small sizes. I guess I'm just jealous, because I do weigh more now than I have in many, many years, and I am a far cry from over weight, but certainly don't wear a petite size 6. I would like to know where these gals buy their clothes, because where I live, a 6 is pretty darn small!

I wear a size 6 or 8, I weigh 150 pounds, but I am 5'10".

Yeah, same here. I don't see why that's so unusual. If you're top heavy or hourglass-shaped, your weight is distributed differently giving you a different weight; or if you tend to build muscle easily, you could be a size 4, but weight 135 lbs, as muscle mass is heavier.
I'm 140 lbs. now, but was 150 not long ago, measurements 34D-27-37, and 5'4" - I build muscle pretty easily, and though I was once a size 4 (34C-26-36), I've never made it anywhere less than 128 lbs., and my I doubt I'm some kind of medical anomaly.

hey, I am 150 pounds and 5'1 and I am a size 4-6 in American Eagle and the Limited. My doctor told me once he thought the scale was broken, but I really do weight that much. I don't look anything like it though. I work out 5 days a week, so I have a lot of muscle. So I can kind of believe it. I eat basically just fruit, salad, and sushi. So I guess either I have a messed up body, or maybe it is possible.

Yeah, i weigh 150 and im a six, but when i tell people i weigh that much, they think im crazy. I look like a weigh about 130

I wear a size 4 and 6, and I weight 153 pounds. I'm 5'8" tall. It all depends on WHAT the weight is. Muscle weighs a lot more than fat, and it's also a lot leaner. I've played basketball and cheered my whole life. Someone who weighs 150 with no muscle is probably primarily fat, which explains why they couldn't fit into a size 6. People tell me, "You look like you're about to blow away. You must weight 120 pounds." It's all according to your body build. But yes, it's very possible to be 150 pounds and in a size 6 because I am.

Sometimes I even wear a size 4. I'm almost 5'10" and have major problems with the length of a lot things I like to wear/ need to wear though.

I think it really depends on how much muscle mass you have. I've always been really athletic so even walking up a hill I can feel my muscles tighten.

A person who is shorter and not naturally athletic (more curvaceous) will probably look a fair bit larger.

Today:Weight 142lbs, Size 6 Jeans/dresses/Small top, Measurements (34D-28-36)

5 Years ago (before kids)
Weight 130, Size 8 Jeans/Dresses/Medium Top, Measurements Unknown

I'm in much better physical shape now and wear smaller sizes. It does matter how your body is proportioned and muscle vs fat.

I am 5'3.5 inches , I weigh 145 lbs and am a size 6, comfortably. I dont know how, I dont really work out..all I can say is my shape is hourglass,I have lots of curves... I dont know how that helps.......but yeah. Im 36 yrs old, and when I was a teenager I weighed 122 and wore a 7 and it was sooo tight.......weird.

I am 5'4 and 145 pounds. I wear a size four. I lost 140, rather quickly actually without any kind of sugery. The reason a lot of these people you are talking about weigh so much, but wear such small clothing sizes is that when people lose excess amounts of weight, they often have extra skin that can only be removed with surgery. One doctor told me it accounts for about 15 pounds of my current weight because I have so much on my thighs, arms, and stomach. Also, extreme weight loss involves a lot of working out, which bulids muscle. I work out everyday, so naturally I have been building some muscle. You would never think I weigh what I do looking at me though, I've been told recently a lot that I'm too thin.

I don't believe you people who say you're 150lbs and wear a size 6. Maybe where you get your clothes they're super huge or something but that's just not possible at the stores I shop at. I'm 5'1 108lbs and I wear a size 4.

women's sizes are crazy.

I am under 5'4. I fit into the children's department of all department stores in which I wear a little girl's 14-16. In women's I wear a 4 with alterations

I weigh 133-140 lbs (it varies from day to day depending on fluid retention). People describe me as small or little. It is bewildering, because I think that cannot be true weighing what I weigh. When I am shopping in the women's departments I am almost always redirected to the junior's and the smaller sizes. If I tell someone my weight they are usually shocked. If I mention how I am on a diet, they say, "Why? You are not fat!" So, do not ask me why I wear the size I wear at my heavy weight, but my measurements do match the dress size I wear.

It is best not to judge yourself or others by the dress size worn or the number on the scale, because we are all shaped and built differently. Judge instead by the amount of fat you have on your body and (if your body image is not distorted) what you see in the mirror. That is more accurate.

I am 15 yrs old and have been struggling with my weight since last year. I was 160 and now I am down to 143-145(depends if clothes are on or off) I really want to build more muscle in my arm area and get rid of some belly fat. i work out 5 days a week. i wear a size 9/10 in jeans. my jeans are a bit snug but it wld probably fit perfect if i were 135 lb.I am 5"6 and will probably grow more because of my age right now. but it does sound possible for someone to be a size 6 and weigh lees. It all depnds on fat percentage!

I guess, if you are tall, because i am 5'4, weigh 140 and i wear a size 6.

Women's sizes may be "larger" smalls than they were before. I am 5', weigh 135 and wear a size 8 and I can wear some girls sizes 14-16.
When I was in my 20's. I weighed about 125 and wore a size 10.
So I think sizes are becoming larger.
What was a size 10 thirty years ago is now an 8.

I am 31 years old 5' 5.5" and weigh 151 (as of this morning) and fit into basically any size 6 as well as many size 4 pants. Tops I usually take a Medium (8/10) because I have a bigger bust. I am hour glass figure and more muscular by nature. I work out 5-6days a week cardio & strength training and have definitely EARNED this figure ;)

After 3 kids my weight lingered around 180-195 for quite some time and even then I was a size 10/12

Everyone's body is different. I am 5'10", I weigh 145, wear a size 5/6, but my boobs are a full D cup. Are your boobs a full D cup? Probably not, maybe they are. But you can't stand two people next to eachother and assume that if they both weigh 150 they are going to look the same and wear the same size. You could be 150 and flabby or 150 and toned like me and have a great body. You really shouldn't trash people who "weigh 150 and wear size 6" because it "isn't possible." It most certainly is! MUSCLE WEIGHS DIFFERENT THAN FAT! BOOBS weigh more, hair weighs more, some people have longer legs and shorter waists. Do you know there are several different body types? Yeah, ot just ONE!!!!! I am hour glass shape! SOmeone else might be apple shape! I was apple shape until I got my boobs done! THAT ADDED 10 lbs!!! I was 140, got my boobs and went to 150! But my waist didn't change. Still size 5/6. Did you know that several models are atleast 5'10" and weigh 125 lbs?!?! YEAH! And they are size 2! So please don't talk like you know everyone's body. FOR YOU it might be impossible, for certain body types it might be impossible, but as for me, NO WAY! I am 5'10" and 151 lbs with perky boobs, tight ass and a hot body. Oh, and I wear a size 5'6. THANK YOU!!

That is not unusal or should be doubted in my opinion. It all depends on where you carry a majority of your weight and how muscular you are. I weigh 150lb 5'6 - I wear a size 6 sometimes an 8. My chest is 36D and I have a butt. I consider myself actually voluptuous. BMI charts say my ideal weight is 130 but I feel like I look like im sick. I excercise 3-4 times a week and eat correctly. "150 pound woman wears a size 6, I doubt it" This is why many poeple have eating disorders or have such a warped view on their bodies because of people like this.

Yes, it can happen. I'm 5'2 weigh 173 and wear a size 8. I was shocked. However, over the past 8 months, I have been working with a trainer in a bootcamp. One thing he told me at the beginning was not to watch the scale but my clothe size drop because as your body begins to tone/build muscles the weight may be their but your body is now toned. This is why some people at 150 pounds can wear a size 6 while others may not. It all depends on how much muscle versus fat each person is has. In the past before I started strength training I have carried 175-180 pounds but was wearing a size 12-14. That's why I was amazed at how my body toned and now I can wear a size 8. Believe it or not it happens.

The bottom line. I love my body now regardless of what the scale says. My size 8 and toned body is a result of hard work-outs and eating right. Belive it or not it's true!

I am 5.4 and also 150lbs and I buy my jean everywhere there is a good buy and can fit into 4 @ 6 my bust is at least a DD after 6 kids. Size 8 are way to baggy.

I'm 5'6" 142 pounds and wear a six in most pants but if I go to American Eagle or Old Navy I'm either a 2 or a 4 so that's just vanity marketing. Sadly - larger tops since I was cursed with big boobs (and it IS a curse - trust me!)

It is so possible to be 140 to 150 and wear size 27.I am 5'5 and weigh 150 and am wearing a size 27 right and my jeans are from papya and are pretty much the true size. All girls are not the same and we carry our weight different.

It is all about your build and how much lean muscle you have on your body. I am 5' 2" and weigh 210 and I am in between sizes at the moment, a 16 is getting loose when a 14 is a little tight and I am curvy. I have huge boobs (38DD), have a butt as well but have a smaller waist. Even when I was a size 6, which I hope to get back to soon I was easily 140 - 150. I also workout a min of 6 days a week along with doing some sort of cardio everyday, if it is walking, the gym or playing tennis. When I tell people how much I weigh they are in complete disbelief. Every body is just different.

Wtf? I'm not a size 6, but it's possible for people to wear size 6 at 150 lbs. The people may be tall, for example, or have a lot of muscle.

Btw I'm 150 lbs and I wear a size 7-8. I'm 5'7.

Muscle weighs more than fat. I am a 16 year old athlete and I weigh 147 lbs. I also fit into a size 5. Just because someone weighs a lot does not mean they are fat. I'm considered skinny by most of the people I know. I workout however and most of my body is muscle. Just remember, muscle weighs more than fat!

Totally possible. I have always had a lot of muscle before my baby I weighed 148 and was a size 4-6 in any brand I tried on. Now after the baby I am currently at 170 and wear a size 8-10 in any brand... I still have some baby weight to lose but no one can ever guess my weight so its entirely possible. oh also I am 5'7

I am 5'6" and weigh between 145-150lbs and I'm a 4/6. I shop at Anne Taylor, Gap, Banana Republic mostly. I work very hard and have a muscular frame (with a little womanly padding). I actually have gained almost 10lbs in the past 3 months and gone down a size. Weight has very little to do with your size. Start weight training and stop eating sugar and white carbs, you'll be a 4/6 in no time!

Oh wow. I've got a ways to go to get there after pregnancy but when my size 6 jeans fit, I weighed 155lbs. As I got closer to 160 I had to go to a size 8.

Yeah muscle weighs more than fat!
for me, the more I weigh the less I appear to weigh; im 5'5, 150 lbs, a size 4/6 and xs/s at AE, old navy, etc... I have a huge amount of leg muscle (my calves are pure muscle yeesh) so it may be partly why I weigh a large amount,
but my measures are:
36/26/36
whatever it is, I really dont care about my weight as long as I feel good about the way I look

I wear a size 4/6 and I am 5'4 and 150 pounds. I'm very athletic. I'm built with wider shoulders and a narrower waist...still feminine though. If I were more curvier with the same weight....I'd probly wear a bigger size.

I am 5'5" and weigh 150 pounds and I wear a size 6. I work out every day and have quite a bit of muscle mass, so you cannot always go on weight. Muscle weighs more than fat and so, someone who has more muscle mass than you will be leaner than you even if you weigh less. Weighing less does not always equal being healthier or trimmer. You have to keep that in mind. I have a friend who weight fifteen pounds less than me, but she wears a larger size because she has absolutely no muscle. Build someone muscle and you will immediately notice your waistline shrinking.

I am 27yo, 5'7" and 152lbs and a size 12 but I just had a baby 4 months ago. I'm done breastfeeding but I do have 36D's. My 23 yo sister, who is the SAME height and weight, is very active and toned and she wears a size 6.

When I am not recovering from growing a tiny human, I weigh about 140lbs/size 8, but still have a little cushion even then. I only look as toned and thin as my 150lbs/size 6 sister when I weigh 130. Just goes to show it's not all about the numbers.

Zuley: I glad I found this blog. I am 44
- 5.3" and 151. I wear size 6 and 8 size and don't look more than 130. I started working out a year ago with a weight of 135 size 8-10. I guess this is possible. My resolution not to weight myself anymore.
